The Inergy Kodiak Solar Generator made it all possible!

I am a man who enjoys having the right tool for the job.  I really like knowing that I have the right tool for the job and as such I am a collector of tools.  In fact, I once wrote an article that expressed the idea that tools may be worth much more than gold or silver after a catastrophic grid down situation. So you can imagine how excited I am to show you my latest tool! Let me just clear up any confusion right now.  This is without a doubt my favorite tool! Well to be precise it is a combination of tools but you get the point. Inergy has been kind enough to offer Reality Survival readers a 20% discount if you use this link to purchase items on their website!

The heart and soul of my DIY Solar Powered Work Cart is the Inergy Kodiak solar generator. I recently did a full review of this solar generator here: https://www.realitysurvival.com/inergy-kodiak-solar-generator-review/  please take a look at that post for all of the details on the Kodiak. The Kodiak makes everything truly plug and play and that is what makes this so extremely useful! I have been doing product reviews for about 7 years now and I don’t often get really excited about many products because we don’t often see any really big innovations. The Kodiak is different for me (and I am sure you as well) this tool is a game changer! So cliche but man it is true.

You may be asking yourself JJ what the heck is a solar powered work cart?? And that is understandable because I don’t think there is really anything out there like this as a “retail unit”.  Essentially what I did is took a Gorilla Cart and then added a 100 watt solar panel to it and then got a Stanley Pro Contractor Chest and made some modifications to it so it would be able to house the Inergy Kodiak in order to protect it from the rain and elements if needed.  I then added two batteries and battery boxes some battery cables from my friendly neighborhood O’reily Auto parts and bam! You have a pretty sweet mobile power house! I wired the batteries in parallel so as to maintain 12 volts and attached them to directly to the Kodiak.  Now I have doubled the already impressive power of the Kodiak and it does all of the work of maintaining the charge on the batteries for me.  All I have to do is make sure that I don’t discharge them too far.

Then I added a nice set of Porter Cable cordless tools and a corded Black and Decker circular saw  (Corded circular saws just have more power) and a Porter Cable Radio / Battery Charger and a couple of additional battery chargers.  Throw in an extension cord, a few extra bits and it is time to get to work! So now I can work all day and jam out to my favorite tunes all while the sun is charging the Kodiak and my extra batteries so my cordless tools never run out of power!

Then I started to think, ok this great but what if I need to work at night? Oh yeah baby! Break out the LED lights! The Kodiak and extra batteries have plenty of power to run some pretty intense LED lights for many many hours! I added one 126 watt 20 inch Nilight and two 1200 lumen LED flood lights.  Then wired in an individual switch for each light and I was cooking with gas!

So I am sure the intended use for me is clear.  Working on projects around the farm.  But there are so many potential uses for the Kodiak that it would be hard to list them all.  Power outage. Check. Camping. Check. Powering just about anything you want. Check. A Bug Out Power Source? Check. You could easily remove the two batteries and just take the Kodiak and solar panel and the cart.  You could throw your bug out bags in the cart and pull the cart and your stuff where ever you needed to go!   The Kodiak can power an RV through the 30 Amp power port or it could even be the heart of a Bug Out Cabin power system as well! Literally the possibilities are endless!
