Psoriasis affects approximately 125 million people worldwide, making it a considerable public health challenge. Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disorder that has no cure. It manifests most often as plaque psoriasis, which is usually characterized by circular to oval scaly red plaques distributed over extensor body surfaces and the scalp. In addition, patients are affected by multiple comorbidities, including depression, psoriatic arthritis, and possibly an increased risk for cardiovascular disease.
