What do you think of the CZ-USA Model 527 Carbine?

The CZ-USA Model 527 Carbine is an awesome weapon!  I believe this gun is one of the most overlooked, if not the most overlooked bolt action guns on the market today!  I have owned this weapon (mine is a 7.62 x 39mm) for a couple of years now and it has continued to impress me.  I believe if I could only have one bolt action gun, this would be the one I would own.  The action cycles smoothly and the 5 round magazine inserts and ejects nicely as well. The iron sights were dead on at 50 yards right out of the box.  The only thing I wish was different was that it would be nice to have a standard rail to mount an optic to instead of the CZ-USA specific scope mounts.

The trigger on this firearm is an outstanding single set trigger. Without setting the trigger it is already very light and crisp breaking at around 3.5 lbs. Then if you set the trigger it sets off at about 1.5 pounds with no play whatsoever in it. It is by far one of the most amazing factory triggers I have ever felt.  The fit and finish of the rifle was very nice, something more on par with firearms that cost two or three times as much as this one did.  Honestly, this is an outstanding firearm and I really cannot find much fault in it at all.  Let me know if you have any questions about the gun by putting your questions in the comments below.

This is one of the most accurate rifles I’ve ever seen. Ballistically it’s superior to most rifles. My Chrono shows shot to shot variations in the single didgit and standard deviation is also in single didgits. It’s not unusual to put 3 out of 5 shots in one ragged hole at 100yds with a Hornady 123 grain vmax. Haven’t tried any FMJ cheap stuff yet but am sure this rifle will perform.

I got this CZ527 7.62×39 couple of months ago after doing a lot of reveiwing through many websites and I am so happy of doing so. This rifle is excellent finish and is very accurate and light weight . It shoots cheap commie ammo without any problems. I really like it and strongly recommend it .

I agree! It is a sweet lil rifle!

Finding the right rifle accessories

Finding the right rifle accessories

I enjoy looking for good used rifles and pistols at pawn shops, and I have found a few really good deals there in the past.  The rifle pictured above is one of them.  This is a Remington Model 78 Sportsman and mechanically it was in great shape and had a very crisp trigger.  The only problem was that the stock was pretty beat up and had a hairline crack running through the forearm.  So after paying the cashier $120.00 for the rifle and doing all of the necessary paperwork I walked out the door with an old but good Remington Model 78 Sportsman and a fun new project.

Once I got the Model 78 Sportsman home, I knew that the stock would need to be replaced so I looked around for a while and didn’t find anything in the price range I wanted to pay, I was hoping to find one for under $40.00, but most I found were $75.00 or more.  My goal with this Model 78 project was to put together a rifle that was capable of shooting “close” to MOA at 500 yards for under $500.00.  Then not long ago a good friend of mine remembered that he had an old composite stock that would fit but needed a paint job, so he gave it to me for nothing. That certainly helped me stay under budget!  What a great guy, huh?

I then picked up a few accessories over the next couple of  months.  I ended up with a 12″ Harris Bi-pod ($80), a 42 Inch IceCord 550 Rifle Sling (about $45.00), a Hogue Recoil Pad ($20.00), and a 6 x 24 Bushnell MilDot Scope and rings (about $220.00) and about ($15.00) in spray paint.  So I had all of the parts together, barely under the $500.00 mark.  Now the Remington Model 78 Sportsman needed a cool tactical paint job, because the chipped up 1980’s metallic brown paint just wasn’t “TactiCool” enough.  So I opted to do a three layer camo paint job.  Take a look at the video below to see how I went about preparing and painting the stock on my old Model 78.

I have yet to take it to the range to see if I can shoot close to MOA with the rifle at 500 yards, but I am pretty confident that the rifle can do it…as long as I can hold up my end of the deal!

I’m definitely going to paint my black 10/22 stock after reading this post!

It looked easy when you did it but I don’t think I can do the paint as well. Kudos
By the way, how can I get youtube to show up like you did with the controls?

Nice techniques. I love the twig masking. I’m going to try that one day. I’ve seen some studies done on camo with white coloring, usually in feathered stripes at odd angles. Sometimes it can make an arm or a stock disappear. Especially against light backgrounds. Within dark areas, it confuses the mind’s ability to distinguish shapes – so the studies say.

I’d like to experiment with that on my H&K clone. Nice work JJ.

Temecula,
Give it a shot! It is a lot easier than it looks I assure you.

Cheers
JJ

LP,

You are correct lighter colors are often overlooked for use in camouflage and you can see in some of the recent new camo hunting clothing lines that white and grey are key colors.

Thanks!

JJ

CZ-USA Model 912 Specifications

CZ-USA Model 912 Specifications

CZ-USA shotguns are very possibly one of the best valued shotguns on the market today.  For the quality and price I don’t think they can be beaten.  CZ-USA is one of the only gun companies who manufacture a full line of weapons rifles, pistols, shotguns for hunting, competitive shooting, self protection and more.  Recently I had the chance to go shoot with a good friend of mine who is a pro shooter for CZ-USA and who works with them full time.  We had a great time at the sporting clays range and he was kind enough to make the video below where he shoot some sporting clays and he briefly talks about the CZ-USA Model 912.

The CZ-USA Model 912 is a great all around shotgun.  It can be modified and used as an effective home defense weapon.  Or it can be used as originally intended as a field hunting gun or a competitive skeet or sporting clays gun.  It shoot both 2 3/4″ and 3″ shells so it has a lot of ammunition versatility and it is light enough and quick enough that younger shooters and females can easily use it in a wide range of applications as well.  I have shot a CZ-USA Model 912 on two occasions. Once in bad rainy weather on the sporting clays course and the second time on a clear and sunny day on another sporting clays course. On both occasions the weapon shot very well and I didn’t have any malfunctions.

The one complaint I have with the CZ-USA Model 912 is that it doesn’t run very well with extremely light loads.  It performs best with 1 ounce loads that are pushing 1290 feet per second or more or 1 1/8 ounce loads that are pushing 1235 feet per second or more.  It also isn’t extremely fond of Winchester low grade cheap shells either.  However, it performs very well with Federal and Remington’s cheap field loads.  Most hunting loads and heavy skeet, trap and sporting clays load run fine through it.

Overall, for the price and the performance I have seen with this gun I am very pleased with it and I think it is a great value that will give any user years and years of great shotgunning experience.  Any time I review a product or a gun I like to assign a rating to it and personally I would assign this weapon an 7.5 out of 10.  Visit http://www.CZ-USA.Com for a complete look at the CZ-USA Model 912.
