Travel is a time for new experiences. Don’t let diarrhea derail your next adventure.

We’ve all fallen prey to an untimely bout of diarrhea – from the honeymoon trip to Costa Rica to your child’s
first day of kindergarten, diarrhea affects us all. While annoying and inconvenient, many cases of diarrhea are
caused by a normal reaction to an abnormal situation. Here are five diarrhea triggers to keep in mind:

Parenting comes with a lot of surprises – diarrhea doesn’t need to be one of them.

Dr. Alan Greene is a pioneering pediatrician and Chief Pediatric Advisor for DiaResQ.

On average, kids will have diarrhea between 7 and 15 times before they finish kindergarten. It’s tough on the
whole family, the baby-sitter, the preschool, and even the tee ball team.

For adults, it’s a real disrupter too. We have work to do, kids to chase and we’d prefer to enjoy our travel
rather than spend it in an unfamiliar bathroom. Up to 70% of travelers, depending on the destination and season
of travel will experience diarrhea.

When typical diarrhea does happen, there are a few simple steps that will help relieve the issue safely and
get back to a happy and healthy gut quickly.

Hydrate. Replenish lost fluids. Oral rehydration solutions or apple juice diluted 50-50 with water can work well.

Use food as fuel. If you or your child feel up to eating, start with small meals. It’s important to keep up the calories and the nourishment. Avoid foods with lots of added sugar, which can make diarrhea worse. Lean protein sources, yogurt, vegetables and fruits are all good. So are rice or oatmeal. Bananas or unsweetened-applesauce can be nice choices because of the pectin.

Let your body rest. Frequent nighttime waking and an inability to adequately rest affects you and your kids. Allow plenty of time post-illness to rest and recover.

Consider DiaResQ, a safe and effective product for diarrhea relief. In clinical trials, it’s been shown to help with the dietary needs of people with diarrhea. Another great thing is that it is safe for children as young as 1-year because it is not a drug, it is a food with nutritional components and naturally derived ingredients. And it’s well-tolerated, with no serious adverse side effects being reported.

When you feel that lurch in your tummy, turn to a family-friendly solution for rapid relief.
