Meal Ready To Eat (MRE) Soliders have been eating them since 1983 and the military has spent millions of dollars refining the nutritional values, increasing storage life, and making them more palatable.  So much so that of all of the emergency survival foods with a long shelf life that are available on the market today, military Meals Ready To Eat (MREs) remain some of the best choices out there!  To get a great deal on some brand new Meals Ready To Eat check out CampingSurvival.Com.

Meals Ready To Eat have a few advantages over freeze dried foods in my opinion.  First, you don’t have to cook them.  You can cook with with the flameless heater that comes with them, but you can also just eat them cold right out of the package!  This is a huge benefit if you are in a crisis situation where time is of the essence and you need to be able to cover serious ground quickly.  You don’t have to stop and eat, you can just keep on walking and pull out a pouch and eat on the go!  MREs are also nutritional balanced and very calorie dense.  They are also calorie for calorie very competitive with freeze dried foods and other foods with a long shelf life.  Speaking of which is at least 5 years if stored at room temperature.

MREs are heavier since they are fully hydrated, but that also means that you would have to carry less water in your pack…  The thing that some people may not like about MREs also is that there are only about 24 or so entree flavors.  However, each MRE comes with a wide assortment of side dishes, fruit, candy bars, desert, etc.  They are truly a whole Meal Ready To Eat, so you can easily mix and match to get the flavors you prefer!

Meals Ready To Eat make a great addition to a Bug Out Bag.  I personally recommend having 2 MREs per person in their Bug Out Bags.  Then add additional Freeze dried meals for the remaining number of days that you want to carry for with you for.  I also recommend keeping a couple of cases of MREs in your home to be able to use during short term power outages or other short term disasters where you may not be able to cook normally.  Additionally, if you were going to give food away to help other people in need, MREs are packaged nice and neat to be able to do that without a lot of fuss and mess.

Take a look at the video below to see the full review and taste test my family and I did on some MREs that I recently got from CampingSurvival.Com.
