Stroke is one of the leading of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Globally, more than 5 million people die each year, and millions of survivors experience ongoing disability. In the United States alone, stroke accounts for 1 of every 20 deaths. Recently, stroke has been reported to be the initial presentation in some patients with COVID-19.

Of the three major types of stroke, ischemic strokes are most common, accounting for nearly 90%. Hemorrhagic strokes are further subdivided into intracerebral and subarachnoid hemorrhages. Transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) are sometimes called “mini-strokes” because blood flow to the brain is blocked for only a short while.

Are you familiar with key aspects of the various types of strokes, as well as the latest guidance and for diagnosis and management? Refresh and test your knowledge of this common and serious condition with this quick quiz.
