Bring On The Awkward Pitches
God, I hate marketing. Like, I really, really, really hate any sort of marketing of my own writing. I go through phases where I don’t even share my work on Facebook.
It’s pretty bad, peeps.
All I really want to do is write.
However, now that I’ve been officially and seriously writing for a year, I recognize that it’s time to market my work a little… more.
Since I do a lot of self-publishing, I figured it was time to give my work a more cohesive home. That means you’ll start seeing my new (and typically homeless) pieces here:
And, I created more of an archival publication for my stories which have amassed 300+ fans (if they’re not already in somebody else’s pub). I thought it would be nice to find all of those bigger stories in one place!
Please give a follow if you’re interested in following my work a bit more closely in either (or both) pubs.
For whatever reason, having a Patreon creator page makes me feel incredibly guilty, like I could never possibly add any value to my patrons lives. Honestly? It’s the patrons who enrich my life with their support, kindness, and thoughtful messages.
I send out postcards at the $10 level (which are going out pretty late this month) and am hoping to get more exciting ways for patrons to connect at other levels.
But you know, I’m kinda terrible at marketing for a reason. So it’s been a slow go.
My email list is actually a few months old but I’m still trying to figure out how to use it without feeling weird. Some folks say I should email my list whenever I publish a story.
Um, but I publish a lot.
And I don’t know about you guys, but it doesn’t really matter how much I like a writer or artist. If they’re constantly pinging my inbox, I get frustrated.
I don’t want to go out of my way to frustrate folks so I try to use my email list once a week max. And I try to make it a simple but informative newsletter with some of my work and other people’s work too.
Even so, not everyone’s a fan of that approach either.
Ugh, marketing makes my head spin.
At least, I know I’m not alone in this. A lot of you are like me and you also don’t want to do anything other than write. Marketing feels smarmy, right?
For you and me both.
Join my email list to keep in touch.
