Hi
I m having blue radioactive tracer on Tuesday for sentinel node scan and removal of a lymph node. Leaflet says not to hug or sit next to children and pregnant women for the rest of the day. My 2 yr old grandson lives in my house. My daughter will stay out that day and return in time to take him straight to bed. Is this ok?
Will I be ok near him the next day? Also what is the risk?
Thanks in advance.

Hi as long as you drink plenty after they have finished with you you should be OK next day. If same as I had they inject you then you go into a special room to wait for three hours while it goes round your body then have a scan. Good luck.
Billy
P.s risk is very slight anyway just being on the safe side.

I was told to make sure I flushed the toilet twice until no sign of the dye was present.

Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,
I would be guided by the leaflet you have been given and not perhaps be near your grandson on the day you have the procedure. It is a small amount of radioactive dye that helps show up the lymph glands. The charity Breast Cancer Care have some information on Sentinal node dissection which you can look at here
In the information it says the blue dye that they use can take a couple of days to pass through your system.
I hope that this has been helpful. If you want to give us a ring to talk through any of this then please do. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Best Wishes,
Catherine
