As 2018 comes to a close, I took a moment to review the website stats and the links that were clicked on throughout the year. I try to share the most clicked on articles every week on Ed that Matters, just in case someone misses one. These are the Top 7 Articles of the Week. But in this post, I wanted to share the Top 10 Prepper Articles of 2018!
You will notice that the top 5 are all my articles, or at least they were posted on my sites. This might seem a little self-serving, but the reason this happened is that when I link to an article on Prepper Website, that link stays on the front page until it “falls off” due to more links being added. My links, however, continue to be recorded as people visit the post. This happens because I share links out on social media, through email and because gracious people have linked to some of my personal articles on their own websites.
So with that said, I did look at overall numbers. That is why only five of my articles appeared. The other five were articles that were linked on Prepper Website that received a ton of clicks. If you missed one of these, I hope you will take the chance to catch up here.
But before I get to the Top 10 Prepper Articles of 2018, let me say that I have linked to many great articles on Prepper Website. Many of these website authors give of their time and money to share content with others to get better prepared. Thank you for supporting them!
I was very surprised at the number of views of this article. This article was a guest post by Mike Monahan. He visited his brother and sister-in-law in Venezuela and shared the bleak condition that the country has descended into. One of the criticisms that I read was why would he leave his brother and sister-in-law there with those type of conditions. The only thing that I would say to that is you never know the reasons why someone makes the decisions they do. However, this article gives you a glimpse as to what society might devolve into in an economic collapse.
I was glad this article was so well received. It is a topic that is close to my heart. Throughout the years, I have heard from many “seasoned” citizen preppers that are concerned for themselves when/if the SHTF. Besides all the other preps that an average prepper might need to consider, older preppers have needs and concerns that are specific to their age, mobility, and health. But with that being said, they have much to offer too.
This was another article that surprised me. Who would have known that preppers wanted reasons and ideas for starting a prepper notebook? But many found value in this article as it was shared out many times on social media.
Preppers might have been a little confused or even disappointed when they first started reading this article. This wasn’t about a compound with gun turrets and big tall fences. The compounding here dealt with knowledge and applying preparedness knowledge for the long term. BTW – In my experience, as I have followed “prepper news” throughout the years, compounds don’t seem to work. At least, they don’t work in the here and now, before SHTF.
Having a compact stove and cooking pot combo for your bugout bag is something that many preppers are looking for apparently. This article shares my experience with a combo that was light, fit inside of each other and was very reasonably priced.
This article, over at Prepper’s Will, was very popular. When people expect an SHTF event, they would like to know how they should respond and react. And although Bob does provide a flow of thought, he does not tell you exactly what you should do. Every prepper has different needs and they need to make the best decision for themselves. This article is a good thought experiment of what you might need to consider.
This is another article about Venezuela. It’s like preppers know that what is happening over there is something to pay attention to. And preppers don’t have far to look! Daisy, over at The Organic Prepper, has been sharing articles by Jose Martinez, who left Venezuela while he could. Jose still has family there and reports about what is happening on a frequent basis. This article gives home security ideas that can be applied to any home now and when the SHTF.
Claude shared some of his fears for 2018 over at Ask A Prepper. Luckily, we didn’t experience any of these events because, well, I wouldn’t be writing this and you wouldn’t be reading this. But these five fears are something that many of us think about and can be something we eventually experience in the future.
This post from Urban Survival Site isn’t really an article. Alan posted a video from Reality Survival that shares “Good Guy” gangs that will come together for safety and protection when/if the SHTF. And although I subscribe to JJ’s Youtube Channel (Reality Survival and Prepping), I missed this one. I’m glad that I was able to catch this on Urban Survival Site because JJ shares some good stuff!
So this article might seem a little far-fetched for most. I can’t speak for the science of it all, but I have heard about poles shifting from others that I respect, like Ben over at Suspicious Observers. The sun, earth, moon and all that goes into it is far above my paid grade. But I realize that they are learning more and more all the time and what they learn should be considered as it affects so much of our daily life.
Every year I see preparedness websites come and go. Running a website (or Youtube Channel) is a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you want to provide content to help others get prepared, on the other hand, there are costs involved like money and a lot of time. The little benefit most preppers get from running a website is small. But your appreciation goes a long way!
So, in 2019, make an effort to reach out to those who have been creating content, engage on their websites and send them a note of appreciation every once in a while.
I know I have learned a lot from my fellow preppers and I am proud to share their content on Prepper Website. I look forward to sharing even more in 2019.
