daily actions toward becoming better prepared for societal collapse

Last spring, with the advent of COVID, we observed all kinds of masks and gloves sell out and become virtually unobtainable.  Hospitals and medical personnel everywhere were begging the public to donate these items for the caregivers who were claimed to need them more.  I, for one, found the fact that hospitals and doctor offices did not have a reasonable stock of these most basic of supplies extremely disturbing.  And I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the affected entities learned absolutely nothing from the past 1 1/2 years and still don’t have a generous amount of these items on hand.

As the dust surrounding the whole COVID kerfluffle begins to settle, and pharmaceutical manufacturers and the government try new tactics to persuade people to take the jab, stores are discounting essential supplies that people already stocked up on at home.  My local grocery store has had BOGO deals for hand sanitizer.  Rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide are coming down in price.  And all types of masks have been clearance-priced.  I would guess the same is happening in much of the country.

And while the government’s demand for people to wear facial coverings in public was useless at best in slowing the spread of COVID and caused a lot of stress among Americans as they scrambled to buy or make masks, it is a really good idea to have a variety of masks on hand when disaster strikes.  But before making any purchases, it’s essential to understand the options available to make the best choices.

if dedicated preppers learned anything – it should be to prepare for an actual severe pandemic with an allll tooooo probable kill ratio of 30% and an eazy enough 60% …

get your 3M respirator, Typar suit and durable gloves & boots that will survive the rigors of decon procedures >> a DIY copy of a decon station wouldn’t be the worst idea …

I prefer the 3M ones with the cartridges, you can get P100 and N100 cartridges for them (actually P100 in bulk were nearly identical to the N100) and if you want you can get vapor absorption cartridges for them.

As someone who spends lots of time at work wearing a P100 3M full face mask, I would be very leery about the up to 60 ours for carbon absorption. The carbon portion of any mask takes out trace amounts of certain gases but anything above PPM and you’ll use up the carbon fast. Also watch out because H2S (found underground, in oil and gas and pig barns actually shuts down your ability to smell it.

If you think you’ll experience a gas then look at dedicated absorption cartridges for that gas, they will last much longer.
