Hi!
I’m a female, 40, and my ophthalmologist requested an MRI as I’ve symptoms suggesting something might be compressing my optical nerve.
I’m terrified. I won’t be taking bad news gracefully. Passing out in the middle of a panic attack is the most likely scenario.
Were you offered any mental health support when dealing with adverse results? I’m genuinely afraid of how I might react to bad news once I leave the doctors office and I’m left to my own devices.
This is a new level of fear, I think it’ll change me no matter what the results are.
Love to all – will update tomorrow.

Had the appointment. Still no results. The doctor who requested the MRI is on sick leave and the new one didn’t get the scan report. He’s confirmed optic nerve damage and wants more tests; which Is good, but until I know if there’s anything on my brain it just fuels my fears.
More waiting and complete uncertainty; I was not ready for that.

Poor you Mia999 – more waiting and uncertainty is bound to fuel your anxiety. How unlucky that the doctor who requested the MRI happens to be on sick leave. But it won’t be long now before you get these important scan results. In the meantime, there are some useful tips on this page on how to cope while waiting for news.
Everything crossed for you for good results!
Best wishes,

Thanks for your words Lucie.
I was told I’d get the results by email or phone. This has not happened. I was also meant to get an appointment with the same doctor to perform another test. I have the appointment, and it is in just two days.
Why wouldn’t he share a clean result as he said he would? It must be bad news. The kind that need to be given in person. Not sure how to survive until then.

Hi Mia
i can really empathize with your anxiety. I hope you get your results soon and that they aren’t as bad as you fear.
I too am waiting for a brain scan due to concerning symptoms (headaches, nausea, vision changes). My scan isn’t until the 6th July, with the consultant follow up on the 8th, and I am really struggling with the anxiety whilst I wait. I can imagine that any delay to hearing the news must make it even harder.
I will be thinking of you.
