Have y’all seen the weather for the PNW?
It is a scorcher with record high temps. Summer doesn’t usually arrive until after the 4th of July, so this heat this early is definitely unusual.

There are some concerns when it gets this hot in an area of the country that isn’t used to it. Arizona is used to it. Texas is used to it. PNW isn’t used to it.

If you don’t have AC, which most people don’t have that luxury, especially in the older homes, there are a few ways you can still stay cool.

I know it goes without saying, buy drink lots of water. Keep your core cool by staying hydrated. Add a drop or two of citrus essential oil if it helps to flavor the boring stuff.

Use ceiling fans (if you have them) and standing fans to move that air. I remember in the early 90’s it was hot in Seattle. We would free water in large bowls then put them in front of the fans. I don’t know if it worked super well, but it helped THINK it was cooler.

Again, keeping that core temperature down is going to help. After drying off I will take my Peppermint roller and roll it on the back of my neck. I don’t advise doing this while you are sweating. It doesn’t hurt, and will cool you down fast, but getting peppermint in the open pores is a smidge uncomfortable.

I know we love daylight, but if the temps are really high keeping your curtains and blinds closed will keep the heat out. Black out curtains are even better.

The bathroom fans and the one over your stove will help draw out the heat.

We used these on a trip to Europe and it was wonderful. Just keep wetting it after it dries.

What would you add to this list?

Whether light in color or material. Whites and linens will help tremendously. It all comes back o focussing on keeping your body cool, vs the whole house.
