Evening all

Well to say I’m scared is an understatement…… I don’t know what to make of this. The way I see it is, this could only be a tumour. I’m 32 female, fit and well. Been struggling with bloating the last few weeks, my stools are different and much softer, I get the odd feeling like I need to pass stool but then there’s nothing there, feeling sick almost 24/7. Now I felt this a few weeks ago but didn’t think anything of it as I didn’t have any other symptoms at the time and just thought it was my stomach that I could feel (I think I had eaten a lot that day!!) but tonight i am absolutely petrified. I can feel a HUGE mass. Like it’s a bit tender to touch but wouldn’t say painful. It centre of abdomen but nearer the top (between belly button and ribs). It’s not hard and it’s not soft. It’s sticking right out now. But it’s huge. It also feels like it has a couple of other smaller lumps with it. I’m absolutely terrified 🙁  should I go to A&E? I should have had my blood results today but doctors receptionist said they don’t have them back from lab yet. When I lay down it’s not as noticeable but I can still feel it. It’s when I bend my back backwards or just standing and poking belly out that it is really obvious. I’m so scared. Especially as I have all these other symptoms going on. Have I got stomach and colon cancer?? Pleas help someone please, im crying :,(

Hi Butterfly

You don’t say what the blood tests were for but if the GP suspected colon cancer you’d be referred for a colonoscopy. The mass you describe could be a hernia, why don’t you call your GP tomorrow and let them have a look. x

They are checking for bowel and liver problems, and endometriosis. The mass doesn’t feel round, it feels almost like a really fat sausage kinda shape, running directly in the middle of my stomach going vertically towards my belly button. It’s huge!! It doesn’t fit a hernia. When I lay down it does seem to go down but that’s just because it’s sinking down into my body. I will call my doctor in the morning and see what he says. I just feel so ill with all this now. Constantly in pain and feeling all sicky.

You poor thing, I would be tempted to ring NHS direct and talk to them. They may be happy with you waiting until tomorrow, but they may think it needs seeing to tonight. (Probably not, but it might reassure you too speak to someone)

Take care and let us know how you get on. X

I don’t want to presume anything but what you are describing sounds as though you might have a separation between your abdominal muscles. This is really, really common and it just means the muscles don’t join together in the middle as closely as they should, meaning that some of the fat and tissue from your abdomen can stick out a bit, causing what feels like a long lumpy thing down the middle of your body. And it sinks back down when you lie down.

A lot of women have this after being pregnant. There are exercises you can do to try to get the muscles back together. It’s nothing to worry about and unlikely to cause many problems.

Hopefully you have got some answers by now.

Hi ya ! Thank you for your reply! You are absolutely CORRECT. Doctor couldn’t work out what I meant by a mass… she said it feels like a muscle! Anyway when I got home I googled it and turns out it’s exactly what you’ve just said! something called Diastasis Recti. And it would have been there since my pregnancy 11 years ago! It’s cos I’ve lost a stone in weight (I a dieting!) that I can now feel it ! I am literally feeling so much better mentally and reading your paper has made me feel even more reassured! Thank you so much. On a separate note, blood results showed raised hemoglobin levels so not sure what that means, could just be dehydration from having diarreah, but doctor wants to be sure. Anyway she’s doctor has referred me to Gastrointestinal Specialist for a scan and colonoscopy , if that’s all fine then she’ll refer me to Gynaecology. Hopefully get some answers soon! xx

Oh that’s really great news, I’m really pleased for you – and I am totally chuffed at my diagnostic skills : )

I hope the other procedures go well and you start to feel better.

Thanks so much for letting me know x

Hi there, I saw your description of your issue at the start of your thread, and it’s almost exactly the same how I would describe what I am experiencing !

However, you commented it’s something related to your pregnancy in the past. Which makes me feel it has to be different for me since I am a 20 years old man.

What are your thoughts on this based on your experience? Also, let me know how you’re feeling now, is the mass still there, or is there other updates ?

I did blood tests recently and they turned out to be completely normal.
