Hello all! This is my first time here.

I think I’m just wanting to write down what I feel like and I figured the best place to do that is here!

I found a lump and puckering of my skin on my right breast last week, so I had a phone consultation with the GP and then a face to face consultation too. He seemed more concerned about the puckering and then found another lump in my left side which I didn’t even know was there! So I’ve been referred and got an email saying if I haven’t been contacted by tomorrow to give them a call to get booked in.

In my head I keep flitting between I’m fine and I’m just being silly and they will tell me off when I get there for wasting their time to oh my god what if it’s something serious!

I just wondered if anyone had had similar- puckering/ sunken breast and what it was in them? I’ve tried not to Google!

Thank you if you’ve read this! I feel better having written it down as only myself and my husband know- we have 3 children (2 teenagers and a 4 year old) and I don’t want to worry anyone else!

X

Hello Mrsm28,

A warm welcome to our forum. First of all you did the right thing in going to see the GP as soon as you found the lump and puckering of your skin and it’s good that they are being thorough and referring you to the breast clinic.

I thought I would share this information on what to expect from your breast clinic appointment. Try not to anticipate too much what it might be – you’ve totally done the right thing in resisting the urge to look things up on Google. Hopefully you won’t need to wait too long to be seen and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all goes well.

I will now let some of our other members who have experienced this type of puckering come and say hello and share their experience with you.

Best wishes,

Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

Hi Mrs M,

I am so sorry to hear about your worries, but you have done the right thing in pursuing some clarification. I didn’t have the same symptoms as you. I had a lump.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years and am currently undergoing further tests again. I know just how worrying this can be and know only too well the tricks our minds tend to play on us.

I am glad to hear that you have an appointment at the breast clinic next Friday. They will never tell you off for wasting time. There is no way to be sure what is going on until you have some tests done. You will find the staff at the clinic are usually very pleasant and supportive.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

Kind regards,

Jolamine xx

Good morning, I’m so sorry to hear of your past diagnosises and I hope the recent tests come back all clear for you.

Thank you- it’s hard to know what to expect from the appointment (though I have read the info posted above so I am more prepared!) I had a dream last night that th doctor just laughed at me and sent me on my way, I also think it’s because I have no one (other than my husband) to voice my concerns to so I’m just going over it all in my head all the time!

Thank you for your lovely reply, I will let you know how Friday goes

Hi Liz,

Don’t worry about your breast clinic appointment. These nearly all follow the same pattern for your first visit. You will chat to the surgeon about your symptoms – where they are, when they started, etc. You will then be examined. I don’t know what age you are for this next stage. If you are close to or over 40, you may be given a mammogram. There is no point in giving these to younger women, as their breasts tend to be denser and don’t give a clear view of the problem area. You may also have an ultrasound (same as you had when you were expecting and totally painless). After that you may have a biopsy where a sample of breast tissue is removed under local anaesthetic. This is then sent to pathology to be analysed and, this is the only way to be certain whether or not there is any cancer present.

Even doctors cannot be sure whether or not cancer is present until they get the results of  a  biopsy, so no doctor will laugh at you or say that you are wasting their time.  It is therefore unusual to get a diagnosis at your first visit. We usually have to wait approximately 1-2 weeks to get the results of a biopsy back.

I shall be thinking of you on Friday, so please let me know how you get on.

Kind regards,

Jolamine xx

Hello!

It’s really useful to get info from someone who has been through it so thank you so much, I’m nearly 36 so maybe I wouldn’t have a mammogram (although I’ve lost loads of weight in a short space of time so I wouldn’t call my breasts dense these days!)

I was apprehensive about a biopsy but if it’s done under local anaesthetic that’s not so bad – just the waiting afterwards that will be difficult! But I guess I will just have to see what Friday brings.

Thank you again and I will let you know how Friday goes

Hi Liz, I hope you don’t mind me messaging.
I am in similar situation as you right now. I’m 30 years old,
I noticed puckering like indent on my right breast about 8 weeks ago, under my aroela area. It’s like a chunk is missing a circular shape about 0.5 cm.  I’ve now found a smooth hard movable lump right near it and seems like another indent is there now.
I have my apt at the breast clinic on Tuesday. My mind is consumed with all the worry and I am thinking the absolute worse. Reading a lot of stories on here. Really hope you are ok and will be thinking of you tomorrow ,
keep updated with what the say.

At least you have an appointment so then you will know exactly what it is and hopefully put your mind at ease.

The waiting is horrible isn’t it- I’ll be sure to let you know how I get on in the morning, I am still constantly flitting in my between oh my god it’s something serious to what you on about you dafty there’s nothing there! So it will be good to know what it is exactly.

Sending you positive thoughts and let me know how you get on on Tuesday x x

I know I’m going through waves of different thoughts aswell.
cani ask how does your indents look an how does your lump feel? I know we can’t self diagnose but i am constantly reading up and reading other people’s stories and symptoms.
mom feeling the area so much it actually is a bit sore today.
hope your feeling ok xxx it’s good that your appointment is in the morning, earlier the better xxx

My lump on my right side (which is the one with the indent) just feels jaggedy it’s not smooth and it’s stuck if you know what I mean? It’s small and hard to touch, not squishy. And I have no pain at all with it- just a slight feeling of heavyness (if that makes sense!)

The indents are hard to describe but I’ll try! It looks like there’s a bit missing. Inside? Like a crater? Like it’s being sucked in from the inside and on that crater is maybe 3/4 more sucked in bits like a dimple? (I’m probably not explaining too well!) And I have also noticed since I’ve been looking more closely that my nipple goes to one side too. Not thats anything to do with it though!

As I said in my original post the doc found a lump in my left side but I can’t find it so I’m not sure what he was feeling there- unless I’m missing something. I also had some blood tests but I haven’t heard anything from those so I assume there was nothing of great importance!

I haven’t googled as I know what it will say and I don’t want to worry myself further! What does your lump feel like? I guess they all feel different? I have no idea!

My indents sounds exactly like yours. When I google dimples I feel like that points more to the orange peel look. Mine are my like a scar look like a chunk is missing, or if you have put a stamp on it and it’s taken a chunk out. If that makes sense

I can only feel one lump but the doctor said she felt two.
my indents came before the lump though. The lump is movable but the around it and behind it feels like there’s squishy soft lumps , I don’t know if it’s glandular tissue but it’s softer. The lump itself is smooth rounded and hard . A bit bigger than a pea I would say. My breasts are really ropey anyway, but this lump is definitely different. Since having my 6 year old they changed and obviously got quite saggy, the skin has lost all elasticity aswell. I’ve also lost nearly two stone since March which was intended. I saw you have lost weight to. Is that a sign maybe why the dents can happen?? I don’t know ‍♀️ this breast also  seems to have shrunken aswell.
mom looking hundred times a day and it is definitely smaller all of a sudden.
I use a hot water bottle on my upper right abdomin due to what I thought was gallbladder but it’s not so need further tests. The heat always tests on that boob pretty much so I don’t know if heat can cause this either.

I haven’t got pain, only a bit sore today but I always have that due to ovulation at the moment.

I suppose you know when something is different don’t you. I have lost alot of weight (coming up to 5 stone) and I’m far too skinny now but I can’t seem to put it back on- my boobs are practically non existent now! My left one still feels normal though, like there’s some loose skin and my right one has always been similar (always been a tad bigger too) but the change with the indent etc is noticeable – maybe that’s why it’s obvious coz I’ve lost weight? I have no idea!

Hopefully will know more tomorrow. And I hope your tests for your gall bladder issue are ok!

Wow that’s a lot of weight you’ve lost, I have read that weight loss can cause the indents too. Just the lumps is the worrying part alongside the dents. Thank you, I have a follow up on Saturday for that problem and then breast clinic Tuesday.
Please update me after your apt tomorrow. I’ll be thinking of you xx
