Hi Everyone

This is my first time posting. I’m 42 and was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in early February 2020. I’m Her2+ and ER+. I’m currently having 3 months of Taxol and 1 year of Herceptin treatment. I will be having a mastectomy when my Taxol is finished and maybe 2 months of AC chemo after but I’m praying that I won’t need that.

Ive had 5 Taxol and 2 Herceptin sessions so far but have noticed that the skin on my face has become very red and blotchy, it’s like a rash on my face.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, skin rashes can happen when having Taxol treatment. Do let your hospital treatment team or GP know, as they may be able to help with this.

In the meantime, you could ring or ask your local pharmacist for advice too. They can assess and advise, sometimes a short duration of usage of topical hydrocortisone cream can reduce skin inflammation. But it is not recommended for long term use.

Anecdotally on various breast cancer online community forums, patients have said that Aveeno products can help. Only use tepid water on your skin and face, and try and use gentle PH balanced cream based cleanser and moisturizers. Avoid extremes of temperature, and direct sunlight might aggravate this too.

I hope that this reply helps,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Yours sincerely,

Vanda

Hi, yes I suffered with a red blotchy face rash too. I’m also HER2 positive and have had 4 EC chemos followed by 4 docetaxol with herceptin and pertuzumab. The rash would come out on around day 10 after the docetaxol chemo and last around 3-4 days. My face would also be incredibly dry and no matter how much moisturiser I put on it never seemed to help. I’m now 3 weeks post my last session and still dealing with some side effects. Fatigue, back ache and watery puffy eyes. I’m booked in for lumpectomy next week. I will still be having the HER2 target therapy so it will be interesting to see if the rash was just because of docetaxol if the therapy drugs are the cause.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment

Hi Mags 77

I was wanting to ask a bit more about how your treatment of Taxol and Herceptin progressed?

I have just been diagnosed HEr2 and ER+ I had a lumpectomy with IORT last week and will start a treatment plan this coming week of 12 weeks Taxol and 1 year Herceptin.

I was wondering how your skin coped as the treatments went on and if there were any other insights or info you could offer me as I begin this.

Many thanks
