Hello all I’m new to this forum but am desperate to talk to those who will understand my concerns.  My husband has prostate cancer that has unfortunately travelled to his bones.  He was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago this October.  I’ve been his main carer and been through many rollercoasters with him one of them being his extreme tiredness – all day.  I feel very lonely and miss the daily the laughter, sadness, happiness that we shared on a daily basis during our 55 years of marriage. I struggle with having noone to talk to alll day.  On his diagnosis he was told he had between 1 – 4 years but I feel that I have already lost him.

A warm welcome to the forum Maggi although I’m very sorry about your husband’s prostate cancer and for the impact this is having.

I can’t begin to imagine how tough the last 4 years have been but I am glad you’ve reached out to us as you’ll find many of our members are in a similar position to yourself so will really understand what you’re going through and will hopefully stop by soon to offer their support and friendship.

I know this is easier said than done, especially when you’re a carer, but it’s really important that you take care of yourself whilst you support your husband. Carers UK can provide emotional support and have support groups for carers all over the country so if you feel this is something that may help you at this time, do be sure to get in touch with them to find out more.

You can also talk things through with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday – Friday between 9a.m – 5p.m.

Our community are here for you Maggi and will do all they can to help you on this journey.

Kind regards,

Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

Hi I’m a prostate cancer patient I was diagnosed Feb 2016 , mine has gone to lymph nodes spine ribs pelvis and a lung, I’ve been on palative care since diagnosed.I was 64years old then, I’ve been married 50years this December.. tiredness is a problem with alot of cancers,I was told its the body trying to repair it self .

I started on hormone therapy then chemotherapy, my PSA was 1581 stage 4 Gleason 8 I was given 5 years.

You don’t say if he is mobile at all.

You should be able to get carers to ease your load if you are struggling,if you can get in touch with (carers first) they should be able to help, with carers and any other things that will make things easier for you,or Macmillan or Marie curie.

Hopefully others will join us soon,as the forum is like a great big family,.

If you want to talk you welcome anytime just some people are only on now and again.

Take care keep positive and safe.

Hello Billy thank you for your reply and so sorry to hear what you are going through. Yesterday a Marie Curie rang to make

arrangements to sit with my husband from 10pm to 7am, as I haven’t had a good nights sleep for a very long time and to say I am exhausted is an understatement as I am spending all night helping him use the commode about 15 times a night

and the same during the day have been told this is  normal for protate cancer.  At the moment I am hating my life but have to carry on as he is worth it.   His mobility is very poor and he has had a number of nasty falls.

My Dr put me on some capsules for my running all the time as I was going around every 20 minutes now it around 2 hours still a nucience at night but alot better than it was.

I was told I had 5 years max it’s nearly 6 now still have problems now and again but different meds help even though side effects can be nasty. But still keeping going still positive.

im also a carer for my wife she has Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s plus other brain problems completely incontinent but can move with walker or hand rails I’ve fitted around the house, changed the bathroom into wet Room no bath, shower with seat and sink and toilet.

We have three carers through the day morning noon and evening, meals and odd things, sometimes help with shower.ive put commode right beside her hospital bed and beside her chair when she’s in living room so she’s always got some support, she usto use frame to move with someone supporting her.

Hope you can sleep better now, and can relax a bit.

Take care.

Billy
