Hi have had mixed results from my CT scan. Consultant pleased radiotherapy has shrunk not only tumour in my osephgeal but where it spread to stomach nodes. This is treatable only cancer but not so good was small spot on liver now got several spots which he said was unusual. Think I would rather not be in the unusual bracket!! Am away in Burnham now but keep stewing on the damned side effects of taxol. Anyone had this an how did you get on? I will be having it once a week for initial 6 weeks then maybe another he will wait an see. Told me hair loss and tingling and mouth sores. Am considering buying Chemo mouthpiece though £240 wondered again if anyone’s used this? Supposed to prevent mouth sores an taste buds being effected an you wear it during treatment. My daughters are desperate for me to have this an originally did say no to Chemo as had such bad reaction but have decided to hell with it as consultant assures me will shrink spots hence be here longer. Haven’t slept all night. A bit cross with myself. Take care all

Hi JaniceMe,

It sounds like there is still a bit of uncertainty here so I hope you’re able to find out more about this soon. Don’t be hard on yourself, you’re going through a lot and I’m sure you’ve been doing the right things at each point.

If you have any questions or concerns about your treatment, do be sure to discuss them with your doctor/specialist. If you feel you’d like to talk things through with one of our nurses, they’re available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

My reply will also boost your post so a few more people should see it, and if anyone has similar experience to share then hopefully they’ll be along soon.

Wishing you all the best,

Ben

Hi just had call saying Chemo set for next week although in my conversation with consultant told him away from 13th for week an he said not to worry as would be a while before any treatment an I would see him first! So have said can they reorganise and even the lady was cross that no letters sent out or no calls to let me know so said she would keep the one with consultant so I can see CT results an talk about treatment face to face.
thank you for replying and hope everyone keeps well

Hi thank you for your reply. Been to see Consultant today (different one to 1st one but actually prefer this one) giving me steroids for breathless problems an inflammation of bust area which he said is the tumour although it has shrunk it can still get slightly inflamed. Also sleeping tablets. Shame Liver has more spots but starting in 2 weeks on Taxol and having cold caps an as I haven’t thick hair apparently should work as cold gel is closer to the scalp. Also purchased Chemo guard which hopefully protects against mouth sores an metallic taste. Will keep you updated as apparently my hospital never heard of it an very keen to see results (cost £200) an you can pay instalments but if works will be a life saver as my relationship  and food have always been close lol. Take care out there x

Had the most marvellous time in Brighton with me an my 3 daughters. Had to use a wheelchair as the tightness an breathlessness has not improved but I am still alive an although can’t do a lot physically the joy I feel at spending time with these precious girls means the world to me. And no problems eating so plenty of fried breakfast an takeaways! Back home now an do hate that I need to rest so much. Have tried fighting the breathlessness but it wins every time an I feel guilty knowing my daughter doing everything when before I loved organising.

Seeing consultant tues ready for chemo Thursday. Very apprehensive as had allergic reaction to first stuff but this completely different one so fingers crossed. Daughter getting a bit emotional as if I can’t have this one there is option for the liver spots. Much as I know the Consultant know their business Cancer has a mind if it’s own an I think it’s better to go with an open mind and every improvement treasured.
Oh Chemo Guard has arrived an seems simple enoughto use but reakon what with cold cap as well best take a hot water bottle!! Well keep well out there we are so brave an deserve every little glimmer of hope we can get x

Well mixed week really. Was due to start chemo an went to see Consultant who said 6 months with treatment an 3 etc without and when I asked what would kill me said my liver would enlarge an I would get jaundice and things would pack up. On tues morning get a call to say bloods showing I am anemic so no chemo anyways..went for blood transfusion an they had lost Cross Match of bloods from previous day so had to wait 1.30 for new results. Then my body rejects it! So had piritin and liquid put through an now will be 5pm before finished. Shattered both physically and emotionally as always new it was long prognosis but us all in our bubble never thought so soon .
