Hi,

I had a bleed with clots in my urine so I was sent to have an ultra sound of my kidneys and a camera in my bladder. These were clear so a week later I was send for a CT scan. My kidneys were clear, but I was told over the phone by the consultant that there were abnormal areas in my liver and uterus. He told me I would need a very urgent transvaginal ultrasound then he would refer me to Gynaecology. The day before my appointment I was told I would be having another CT scan of my liver, womb and abdomen. I asked why because I had just had a CT scan a week earlier, and was told that the radiologist insisted that that it what I needed. On the day of my scan just as I was getting in the car to go they rang to say I didn’t need it anymore, I needed a transvaginal scan. The consultants secretary and another secretary then both took in in turns to call me to apologise, they said the radiologists basically had a disagreement over what was the best course of action.

I have had very difficult periods for a couple of years or more that my GP has dismissed as normal, I also missed a smear test but the GP was not concerned. They kept saying they were pursuing a very urgent referral. I am having my scan tomorrow.
I am very worried, I am concerned that I have a secondary cancer on my liver. No one has at any point told me what it might be, I feel in limbo. I know even after the scan in the morning I will probably have to wait a week and a half for results. I know I am supposed to keep calm and positive but the test result cycle is driving me mad. When I rang my GP to see if he knew anymore than me he said we all have to die of something, but gave me nothing else by way of explanation of what the possibilities are.

I am now terrified.

I am so, so sorry that you got such a callous and unfeeling response from your GP. I was so shocked when I read that, it’s completely out of order!

I totally empathise with how difficult the waiting for results is. I was diagnosed with advanced, inoperable bile duct cancer in April. I’m now on my second cycle of palliative chemo and have weeks to wait before finding out if it’s having any effect.

Try with all your might to take everything one day at a time. It really helps with the fear.

I wish you the kindest of care from the medical people doing your scan today. Xx
