Hello,

Earlier today I had a colonoscopy and had 2 polyps removed – “pedunculated, pit type IIIL, largest 14mm, excised using hot snare by EMR”.

I’ve previously had several gastroscopies, and had recurrent stomach ulcers that have caused vomiting blood and weight loss (around 10 years ago) and had several small flair ups since, but have lost around 2 stone in the past year and started to pass blood in my stool, and quite visible polyps/blood, since around January – hence my colonoscopy. Blood tests/gastroscopy last week are all clear with the exception of a vitamin d deficiency, despite the fact I take multivitamins daily.

Im extremely worried now as to what the possible outcome of this could be. I have aspergers and so may be overthinking this, but my age, the size and number of polyps and the weight loss make me worry. I also look visibly ill, with huge eye bags, and overall just feel like something is wrong.

I am looking for anyone with similar experiences and what their outcome was – good or bad – to help me understand what I can expect. I am currently waiting for ct scan and histology before I see my consultant.

Many thanks,

Thom

Hello Thom and a big welcome to Cancer Chat!

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so worried. It’s good you’ve had this colonoscopy though and that these two polyps have been removed. It’s reassuring that your blood tests/ gastroscopy last week were clear and I hope that you can find out what may be causing this vitamin D deficiency

I hope you won’t have to wait too long for your CT scan and to speak to your consultant. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

Best wishes,

Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
