Hi everyone,
I am kate 36 yrs old two teenage kids .
For months ive had lots of different issues back pain diarrhoea terrible stomach pains in my ovarian areas ,my right leg at the top has no sensation and i have swollen lymph nodes in the groin. I was on the depo contraceptive injection but had my last shot was back in august. Ive had unusual discharge and spotting here and there.
I bugged the doctor had a scan to check lymph nodes, this confirmed they were swollen, but no explanation why. He was going to get me physiotherapy lol but as a woman i knew there was alot more to my issue. So i rang up and said i want a smear and referral to gynecologists.
Had my smear where nurse also found a polyp, its come back positive for high risk hpv and borderline changes too.
My biggest concern is that lots of womens stories it seems their issues are mainly found from routine smears, i have so many other symptoms. Dose it mean i am more likely to have cancer as its affecting my lymph nodes? And has anyone else experienced any of my symptoms?
I am very nervous about the coloscopy and biopsy.
Good luck to everyone else on here thanks for reading x

Hello Ktlettice and welcome to Cancer Chat,
You did really well to go and see the doctor about your lymph nodes and also to insist on a referral and a smear. Try not to worry too much though about the HPV positive result – so many ladies here have had this before and I hope they will be along shortly to reassure you about it all. You can read more about treatment for abnormal cervical cells on this page and you will also be able to find out more about what to expect from the colposcopy here.
With regards to your other symptoms and in particular your lymph node issues, I think it would be worth talking to a doctor about your fears that these might be related to your abnormal smear results. Your doctor will be best placed to tell you more about this and whether these are two separate issues or not. I hope that you can get all these symptoms investigated and that you feel better soon.
Best wishes,
Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

You’re most welcome Ktlettice! I’ve just come across a new thread by @Kim89 who is in the same situation as you and has had the colposcopy, so a good person for you to chat to! You can find her post here and feel free to respond if you wish.
I hope this helps!

Hi ive just been reading your story i also had a swollen lymph node in my groin on left side the doctor told me its because i have a weak immune system mine is still large i had a very bad chest infection 7 month ago when i was pregnant and he said due to having the infection that was the reason my lymph nodes had swollen but i told him it was only the one in the groin i checked all the rest and they seemed fine he said not all lymph nodes enlarge through infection it is still large hope your ok at colposcopy my nurses were really nice and explained evrything in so much detail i felt very reassured the only part i was frightened of was the needle it hurt the first time and after that i couldnt feel a thing but hurt for few seconds and i was totally fine couldnt feel anything my heart raced alot when tje numbing started to work but that is totally normal then i was fine was just like having period cramps when i got back home now just waiting on results is the worst part for me because i suffer bad with anxiety but nurse told me not to worry and it was defonatly not cancer so taking her word for it cos surely she wouldnt be allowed to say that if she had any doubts at all been a proffesional x

He also said mine wasnt hard and bounced away when pushed and felt rubbery on which is also a good sign. it is when there really hard and dont move when they get concerned. Do yours feel like there moving xx

Mine were movable but definitely harder now ,thats why i was so concerned as i asked for a smear due to all the different symptoms ive had ,the only reason i came across them was because i had no sensation in the top of my right leg and it used to feel heavy ,then after a few months of this i realized my lymph nodes were swollen x
