I don’t really know what to say. I just really need to get it out how I’m feeling.

My Dad has had a cough and hoarse voice for months now. He had a chest x ray 2 weeks ago today. The results came back a week later and the GP called and said they have seen a slight change on the x ray when compared with a previous x ray he has had in the past. So he has been referred for a CT scan. The GP said not to worry and this is precautionary because he has had cancer twice in the past (esophagus and voice box).

He has to have a blood test before the scan which is scheduled for tomorrow morning. He called the hospital yesterday to tell them when the blood test will be so now its just a waiting game again.

Please can anyone advise, does the CT appointment usually take long to come through once the blood test has been done?

Also, would the doctor have told him not to worry if he thought there something more sinister? Or that it had been reported that something was seen? Would he have to tell him if something worrying has been found?

I am trying to take comfort from the GP’s words but his cough and hoarse voice still persists. Between that and the change on the x rays, I just cant imagine it being anything other than the worst news. What have they seen on the x ray if they’re saying don’t worry? So many questions.

Im going out of my mind with worry. I cant focus on anything else and I feel so low.

So many other things happening in my life that would usually have me jumping for joy but I’m numb. I can’t feel happy about anything. There is a constant dark cloud of fear and worry.

Thanks anyone who takes the time to read this x

Hello Hix,

I’m sorry to hear about your dad’s situation.

After what you described, it’s easy to understand why you’re so concerned about your dad, so I hope that chatting with others here who have a similar experience to share will help you to go through this period of your life.

And once you know more, please come back to update us on what the doctors said.

Best wishes to you both,

Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
