Firstly sorry if this is not allowed!!!!!!
Can anyone give me some advice on what to do please!!!!!
My 8 year old daughter has the weird growth on her arm, after going to the pharmacist he said give it a week and it will probably fall off and I should go to the gp if it doesn’t, well it didn’t!!!!! Due to covid I waited a month to ring the gp, he asked to send photos so I did and he phoned me straight back and said if he saw that in an adult he would say its skin cancer and he was doing an urgent 2 week referral to the dermatologist. Well that got put on hold because the dermatologist told the gp to prescription steroid cream and review in a week, well it hadn’t changed if anything it got bigger and angrier, so back to gp!!!! More photos sent to dermatologist and this time the dermatologist agreed with the referral and she had an appointment booked for Thursday 28th!!!!! Got a phone call to cancel that because they want to wait for a normal referral!!!!!
What can I do cause I’m worried she isnt because she doesn’t know about all the back and fourth I’ve been doing but I’m going out of my mind!!!!!!
I know skin cancer in children is rare but in my eyes rare is not impossible!!!!!!
Please can someone advice me on what to do!!!!!

Hello and thanks for posting,
I can understand that this must be an incredibly stressful time for your family.
The skin clinic have asked for a normal referral. I am not sure what this means in terms of how long you need to wait for that appointment. This may have been a decision that was made by the dermatologist based on the photographs he saw but I can’t be sure. You could see if you could speak to the dermatologist’s secretary and ask how long this appointment could take.
I think the only thing I can suggest is to go back to your GP and explain your concerns. You need to be able to ask if it continues to grow and become angry what your next steps should be. It is probably a good idea to try and have this conversation when your daughter is not around so you don’t increase her anxiety.
I do sympathise with your situation and I can understand how hard this must be for you all. If you would like to give us a ring to go through any of this with you then please do so. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Very Best Wishes,
Catherine
