I have opted to go for radiation alone to treat T2 floor of mouth Squamous Cell Cancer. Is their anyone else who chose just radiation? And if so, did it work?, As far as I know the MRI didn’t show it in the lymph nodes. I could of opted for surgery with maybe no radiation after. I am close to starting treatment, so still got time to change my mind. Thanks

Hello Neil777,

I hope that that you will hear from some of our members here who have chosen to go for just radiation and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. It is difficult to have to make such an important treatment decision – I imagine you have discussed the pros and cons of all the different options with your specialist.

Our nurses are available on this free number 0808 800 4040 – their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm if you would like to talk things through with them.

Whatever treatment you end up going for, I hope that it goes well and that it is a success.

Best wishes,

Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

I’ve already read some of it, doesn’t sound nice at all. I have been given 20 sessions of Radiation, no mention of Chemotherapy as of yet, suppose they’ll decide when they see what the radiation as done. I actually just wanna get on with it, been feeling a lot better since my initial diagnosis, was shocked for a week or so. Anyway thanks for your reply, wish you luck for the future. Neil

Ps the chemo only plays s small part of treatment appx 4% in my case mostly used when lymph nodes are involved so don’t worry know plenty who only had radiotherapy and are fine now.

Thanks for the positive messages, I’m starting my 20 sessions on the 9th of December, and as a self employed person I’ve decided to give myself till mid March-April to get back to work, maybe do some little jobs before if I can manage. As for being 5ft you sound like a trooper in your blog. I’m 6ft, about 12stone, 45yrs old, my journey has begun, and after the initial feeling of just doom I am now quite settled & confident that it’s gonna work out. Many Thanks Hazel

Today I’ve noticed a sore on my left ankle which looks perculier, I phoned the nurse and she said the cancer is unlikely to spread from the mouth to the leg, maybe I’m paranoid but got a terrible feeling about it. I’m thinking I should ask for a full body MRI scan, I’m due to start radiotherapy next week and if it’s everywhere maybe theirs no point having it. I’m at the stage we’re I’m thinking death itself may be easier, read some terrible things on here, last thing I want is to go through treatment then find out it was all for nothing.

I haven’t been told that, so not sure. I think I’m probably run down due to the whole scenario. Just wanna get on with it, got a decent chance so I can only hope it works, thanks for replying, it’s a lonely place at times, so your replies mean a lot x

Hi Neil nO problem. Yes it is a lonely time once treatment starts things fall into place. Your family will be having their  own demons as well my hubby couldn’t do right for doing wrong b plus I didn’t treat him very well not consciously but we had words and we  don’t argue been married 42 years but cancer brings you to that state.
here if you want to ask anything.
