Hello,
I recently went for my first smear test. I have received a letter from the Cervical Screening Administration Service to inform me that I have HPV (human papillomavirus) and changes to some of the cells in my cervix called ‘low-grade dyskaryosis’. I have been referred to go for a colposcopy examination. I am absolutely petrified and really worried about the matter. Please can anyone who’s gone through a colposcopy tell me what it’s like?
How long did you have to wait for an appointment?
Any information on this matter would be much appreciated. I’m just so scared.
Many thanks

Welcome to the forum Apache-28 although I’m sorry to read what’s troubling you.
I’m sure some of our members will share their colposcopy experiences with you soon but I hope this information we have about the procedure will help calm your nerves.
You can find out more about your screening results just here but if you’d like to talk things through with one of our nurses then you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday – Friday between 9a.m – 5p.m.
I hope you don’t have to wait too long for your appointment and all goes well when the time comes.
Kind regards,
Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
