So I was up late and thought about looking into something interesting and thought to look into different types of cancers as I want to be a doctor in the future

But something worrying can up as I saw a brown streak  can be a sign of skin cancer on your toe.

I have one dark streak and one less dark streak on my left toe but remember having it for almost a year or two but thought nothing of it.  I’ve not seen any weight loss weakness or any significant change in my body. I researched it more and all have quite vague reasons wether it is or isn’t. I’m going to book a gp appointment for tomorrow and hope it’s ok.

Can someone please help with what it may be. Thanks

Hi,

I’m not a nurse but I have been a melanoma patient for many years. Hopefully you have already made an appointment to see your GP and I hope you don’t have to wait too long. Dark streaks in the nail can be caused by several things – a trauma to the nail, a fungal infection, or in a very small number of cases subungal melanoma. Only a GP can help diagnose or refer you to a consultant who can do a further examination to determine it’s cause. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie

Hello and thanks for your post

Nails can discolour for lots of reasons such as trauma or infection. It is possible to develop melanoma under the nail but it isn’t so common and there could easily be another explanation. So the chances are that this may be nothing to worry about.

Hopefully, when you see your GP this will turn out to be nothing more than a health scare.

I hope you know more soon.Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Kind regards,

Celene
