Hi my friend has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has spread to the liver and esophagus.  After being in hospital for around two weeks, she has been discharged home on Tuesday just gone with no care plan given and just her medication inc prn oromorph. She has had no follow up from any healthcare professionals whilst at home  except a letter that arrived via post with a biopsy appt for 2.5 weeks after discharge.  Is this what usually happens or should she be getting support.  Thanks

This sounds totally wrong.  Does she have a link cancer nurse?  If so she should contact her and say she has no support.  Does she have anyone at home?  She could also contact Social Care and ask for a care needs assessment.  Hope that helps a bit. x

Hello – your friend should’ve been given a point of contact ie. a specialist nurse or palliative care team. Regarding the biopsy appointment- is this in relation to some possible chemo/treatment?

I would either phone the hospital ward she was on and ask for a forwarding contact number for the team looking after her – or phone the number on the biopsy letter and ask for advice.

If the hospital has an oncology department, they should be have her details and guide her from there.

Sorry you’re having a **** experience;

Good luck x X x
